Laura Sen
Laura Sen is President and Chief Executive Officer of BJ’s Wholesale Club, Inc. and serves as a member of its Board of Directors. Laura joined BJ’s in 1989 as Assistant Vice President, Manager of Logistics. Over the next few years she was promoted to Vice President, Logistics Director in 1991, Senior Vice President, General Merchandise Manager of Non-Food in 1993 and went on to become Executive Vice President of Merchandising in 1997. In 2003, Laura left BJ’s to work as an independent consultant and returned to the company in January 2007 as Executive Vice President of Merchandising and Logistics. She was appointed to the role of President and Chief Operating Officer in January 2008, and in February 2009 she was appointed to the role of President and Chief Executive Officer. She is one of only twelve women featured on the Fortune 500 list.
Laura has approximately 30 years of experience in the retail industry, a career she began in 1978 as an Executive Trainee at Jordan Marsh in Boston. Laura’s tenure with BJ’s began with Zayre Corporation in its discount store division in 1979 as the Assistant to the General Merchandise Manager. She continued to grow at Zayre holding various positions including Buyer and Assistant Vice President, Divisional Merchandise Manager. After Zayre Corporation sold its name plate to Ames Department Stores, BJ’s Wholesale Club, a Zayre subsidiary, was spun off as part of Waban, Inc. In 1997, BJ’s became an independent company.
Laura is an active member in the community, serving on the Board of Directors of the Pine Street Inn — the largest homeless shelter in New England — Dana Farber Cancer Institute, The Boston Ballet, and the National Retail Federation. She is involved with the 21st Century Fund, Brookline High School’s venture capital for education initiative, ATASK (Asian Task Force Against Domestic Violence), Massachusetts Competitive Partnership (MACP), and The American Heart Association. She also works with St. Coletta & Cardinal Cushing Schools of Massachusetts in Hanover.
Laura received a Bachelor of Arts from Boston College.
