Community Service

In 2011-2012, we’re improving our community service outreach activities and are co-sponsoring OneSloan Service Day on October 21.

Every year, Sloanies band together and spend one day giving back to the community. Grab a few friends and sign up for a day of fun with organizations like The Esplanade Association (Charles River beautification), Cradles to Crayons (collects and donates school supplies to homeless children), The Greater Boston Food Bank, and Fenway Public High School. Lunch and social to follow back at Sloan.

By partnering with organizations outside MIT, SWIM will organize community service offerings for the SWIM community. SWIM
aims
 to
 host
two community service events per semester.

Community service events are an opportunity to meet and interact with like-minded classmates who are passionate about giving back and creating meaningful impact. Building
a
community
 of
 women
at
MIT
Sloan
is
an
integral
 part
of
SWIM’s
role.

 The
 relationships
that
 develop
 through community service and
informal,
 social
 gatherings
 can
 last
a
lifetime
and
be
a
 source
of
encouragement
and
support
for
 women
throughout
their
careers.

SWIM aims to form long-term relationships with local non-profit organizations to craft on-going community service programs.  SWIM will organize on-going programs that provide weekly or monthly service opportunities for members through sustainable and repeatable programming.
